Sidney T. Koopman, Jr., 91, of Whitinsville

Sidney T. Koopman, Jr., 91, of Whitinsville, went to be with his Lord on Wed. March 1, 2017 in Beaumont Skilled Nursing Ctr., Northbridge. He was the loving and devoted husband of Arlene C. (Dufries) Koopman.

A lifelong resident of Whitinsville, Mr. Koopman was employed as a Shop Foreman at Leaseway Transportation Co. in Framingham for 10 years before retiring in 1987. He had been employed previously at K.C. Equipment Co. in Mendon, as a parts manager and the former Koopman Tractor and Farm Equipment Co. at Plummer's Corner, Whitinsville. In his retirement, he worked at Ambur Machine Co. and Harbro Auto Sales, both in Northbridge as a driver.

Mr. Koopman was born December 15, 1925 in Whitinsville, the son of the late Sidney T. and Grace C. (Kuekan) Koopman. He attended Northbridge High School and Worcester Boys Trade School.

Mr. & Mrs. Koopman celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Sept. 14, 2016.

Mr. Koopman was a former Treasurer of the Northbridge Senior Center and a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church, Whitinsville, where he was a former Elder, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He had also served as a committee member and treasurer for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop #155. He enjoyed collecting milk bottles, listening to Christian music, and researching his family geneology.

In addition to his wife Arlene, he is survived by a daughter Paula and her husband David W. Frieswick of Uxbridge; a son Randy and his wife Deb Koopman of Whitinsville; 4 grandchildren: Wendy, Erica, Sean, and Shelley; and 5 great-grandchildren.  

Visiting hours will be Friday March 3, 2017 from 4 – 7 PM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 480 Church St., Whitinsville. 

Funeral services will be Sat. March 4, 2017 at 10 AM in the United Presbyterian Church, 51 Cottage St., Whitinsville. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Linwood Ave., Whitinsville.

The family wishes to thank and acknowledge the caring and compassionate staff at Beaumont Skilled Nursing Ctr. and Memory Care Unit in Northbridge.
