Buy MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Town of Mendon’s 350th Anniversary Celebration will culminate this weekend when residents attend a huge Block Party and attend a fireworks display. Admission is free, although there is small costs for the vendors, along with games and activities for the whole family, most are being run as fundraisers for local groups and sports teams. At the Statehouse earlier in the week, the opening prayer in the House included a mention of Mendons’ 350th birthday celebration. The large land area in the original township has been divided over the years to create eight-other towns. It's the birthplace of America’s first legal woman voter, Lydia Chapin Taft. State Representative Brian Murray, who represents Mendon, put together the special recognition held in the House chambers yesterday morning. Mendon’s Block Party and Fireworks is this Saturday from 3pm-11pm in the center of town at Main and Maple Streets and is sponsored by Charles River Bank.
