By MyFM's Rick Michaels - The Town of Franklin is one of the latest communities to go “Green”. In a letter from the State Department of Energy Resources to the Chairman of the Franklin Town Council, Matt Kelly, the town has been designated as a Green Community and has been awarded a grant of $183,000. Green Communities Division Acting Director, Joanne Bissetta, congratulated the town on its hard work in reaching the five-criteria to become an energy leader in Massachusetts. Bissetta says for Franklin to receive this grant the town will submit a project application proposing how these funds will be used as it identifies potential energy projects. Franklin is poised to reduce its energy costs, improve the local environment and implement energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, with funding through the Green Community Designation.
