By MyFM's Jake Archer - The Franklin High School girl’s lacrosse team came up short against Longmeadow on Monday in the Division 1 state semifinal as they lost by a score of 12-6. Longmeadow had the perfect plan of attack to beat the Panthers as they kept the ball away from Franklin and rendered their high-powered offense useless.
The Lancers won most of the draws and would hold the ball for long periods of time to the point where their strategy was painfully obvious. They were able to build an early 5-1 lead before Franklin chipped away and tied in going into halftime.
After the break, the momentum for the Panthers stopped dead in its tracks. Longmeadow went on a 4-0 run and essentially iced the game as they would hang on and only allow Franklin to score once more. The Lancers would milk the clock for most of the rest of the game and they’d add a few more goals to make it a 12-6 victory.
Franklin finishes a great season at 22-2 but will lose four seniors to graduation. Longmeadow moves on to the D1 state finals.
