By MyFM's Rick Michaels - A substance abuse task force is being established in Franklin as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools Peter Light touched upon last night at the School Committee meeting. Light talked briefly about the task force and the need to have the schools take this next step in the Opioid crisis to help get the word out on the dangers of prescription drugs and find ways to help those who have become addicted to painkillers. The Superintendent of Schools in Franklin, Maureen Sabolinski, reminded school committee members the S.A.F.E. coalition will bring a nationally recognized addiction expert to Franklin later this month. Doctor Ruth Potee will speak on “the Adolescent Brain and the Physiology of Addiction”, focusing on the impact of substance abuse on the adolescent brain and strategies parents may use to assist their children in making healthy decisions. The event is sponsored in part by the Franklin and Medway school systems, and will be held at Franklin High School Thursday night March 16th at seven o’’clock…and it’s open to everyone.
