Erik Martus - Blackstone Valley Tech

Erik Martus is a true leader of the Blackstone Valley Tech student body. As captain of the Varsity Cross Country team, Erik demonstrates a strong work ethic and serves as a positive role model to every member of the team - you can tell the underclassmen look up to him. Erik is always looking for ways to help himself and his teammates improve as athletes. He is a highly valued member of the team and someone his teammates and coaches can count on.

Always willing to lend a helping hand, Erik participates in community service activities here at Blackstone Valley Tech and in his community. Erik's volunteer experience includes working at the Douglas Public Library and serving as a traffic director at the Sutton Jingle Jaunt. At BVT, Erik helps record statistics for the boys basketball games and serves as a Student Ambassador. To qualify as a Student Ambassador, students must earn a recommendation from a faculty member, possess leadership qualities, and represent BVT in a positive way by volunteering at school events. As an Ambassador, Erik has had the opportunity to talk to seventh and eighth graders by leading tour groups around BVT and by going to local junior high schools to talk about the opportunities at BVT.

In addition to his extracurricular and community service activities, Erik is a hardworking and dedicated student. Erik is one of the top-three students in his class and is highly respected by all of his instructors. While excelling in his Multimedia Communications program, Erik also continues to challenge himself academically by enrolling in difficult courses; he is currently enrolled in two Advanced Placement courses and is thriving in each of them. Erik is very devoted to his education and has demonstrated a strong willingness to learn that will serve him well throughout his life.

Not only is Erik a great student, athlete, and member of his community, but he is a genuinely nice and caring person. Erik has all the qualities of a true leader and is a perfect candidate for the Dean Bank/WMRC Radio High School Leader Award. Thank you for considering this recommendation.
