Dorothy J. (Wood) McLay, 94, Hopkinton, Grafton and Uxbridge, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at the St. Camillus Health Center in Whitinsville, MA. She was preceded by her beloved husband of 61 years, George A. McLay, who died in 2003. Dorothy was born in Baltimore, M. on January 13, 1923 to Jeanette Patrick who died two days later. She was adopted by C.L. and Debra Wood who later divorced. She was raised by C.L. Wood and was a student at the University of Maryland before marrying George McLay in 1942. Besides devoting her attention to her husband and 5 children, she owned and operated gift stores in Hopkinton and Uxbridge, MA. She was a talented gardener and enjoyed knitting and reading in her spare time. However, Dorothy most enjoyed her time spent with family. She taught them the value of humor and laughter. She will be dearly missed by all. Dorothy leaves her children, Sandra Tegelaar or Worcester, William C. McLay and his wife Pamela of Manahawkin, N.J., Ann-Brook Murray and her husband, David of Brewster, Mary Ellen Kirkpatrick and her husband James of Mendon and Douglass McLay of Worcester. In addition, she is survived by her 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. A private funeral service and burial will be held on August 24, 2017 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne MA.
