Claflin Hill “Sweet Sixteen” Season Continues With Two March Concerts

The Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra (CHSO) will present “The Irish & Italian Summit” – an concert featuring the vocal and orchestral music of both nationalities, on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at Milford Town Hall.

New York based tenors Matthew Surapine and Jim Russell return to the Grand Ballroom at Town Hall to perform with the CHSO after a decade.  The vocalists will reprise their entertaining and amazing renditions of Irish and Italian vocal favorites such as “Danny Boy” and “A Nation Once and Again,” as well as “Finiculi, Finicula,” “O Sole Mio,” and Italian operatic and love ballads.

Jim and Matthew have been performing together in concert for more than a decade. Their performances have thrilled audiences at many venues across the Northeast including: The Levitt Pavilion in Westport, CT, The Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY, The Bar Harbor Music Festival in Bar Harbor, ME and at the Milford Town Hall with the Claflin Hill Symphony - Milford, MA. Their unique blend of Irish and Italian song brings together the music of two cultures famous for their great tenors. From the soaring melodies of Naples to the heart wrenching music of the Emerald Isle Jim and Matthew deliver a concert experience no lover of Irish or Italian music will want to miss.

The CHSO will also perform Tchaikovsky’s “Capriccio Italien” based on Italian folksongs and composed during Tchaikovsky’s visit to Rome with his brother Modeste in 1880.  It premiered under its original name “Italian Fantasie” in December of that year.  The orchestra offerings will also include Felix Mendelssohn’s mystical “Fingal’s Cave” Overture, and a medley of music from the Broadway show, “Lord of the Dance.”

The March 5th concert also is the annual “Health Night at Symphony” and is sponsored by numerous CHSO Business Partners from the health community, including major support from Brigham & Womens/Dana Farber Cancer Center, The Milford Regional Medical Center, Tri County Medical Associates, and the MRMC Medical Staff.
