Charles C. "Melo" Salvia, 99, of Mendon passed away on Sat. Nov. 12, 2016 in the Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford. He was the husband of Helen M. (Auty) Salvia.
Mr. Salvia had been employed at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Framingham for 18 years before his retirement in 1985. He had previously been employed with construction Union # 609 Local in Framingham. Charles had also worked at the former Draper Corporation in Hopedale for many years.
Mr. Salvia was born April 20, 1917 in Milford the son of the late Salvatore and Giovannina (Ferretta) Salvia and attended Milford schools. He had been a resident of Milford before moving to Mendon in 1959.
Mr. and Mrs. Salvia observed their 64th wedding anniversary on May 10, 2016.
Melo was a member of the Mendham Brothers of the Bush of Mendon and the Milford Italian Vets Club. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing. Mr. Salvia received the Boston Post Cane Award for being the oldest citizen in Mendon.
In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by his daughter, Ann M. and her husband Gerard "Tyke' Small of Hopedale, his granddaughter, Jessica L. (Small) Keyes and her husband Brian R. Keyes of Hopedale, 2 great grandchildren, the love of his life, Charlie G. Keyes and Josephine A. Keyes and 2 step great grandchildren, Sydney M. Keyes and John H. Keyes and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 5 brothers, Thomas, John, Peter, Anthony and Carlo Salvia and 1 sister Josephine Salvia.
Visiting hours will be Tues. Nov. 15, 2016 from 4-8 PM in the BUMA SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, 42 Congress St. Milford.
Funeral services will be held Wed. Nov. 16, 2016 at 9 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Gabriel The Archangel Parish, 151 Mendon St., Upton.
Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Rt. 16, Hopedale.
