Celtics Offseason Off To An Interesting Start

By MyFM's Jake Archer - As the Celtics season ended, the thought is that they would take a back seat to the Red Sox and the Patriots because that is usually how it works around this time of the year. That is untrue this year though, as there is a lot that will go on this offseason and headlines are being made everyday. So far, we’ve had a few interesting developments that I wanted to talk about.

Markelle Fultz has apparently been talking with Celtics general manager Danny Ainge and has made it clear that he wants Boston to use the number one overall pick on him in this summer’s draft. Fultz has met with Celtics management in Chicago at the draft combine but plans to come to Boston for a workout and a visit soon. Though he is a point guard and the Celtics already have quite a bit of guard depth, he’s the best player available and he thinks he will fit well here. It helps that he and Celtics star point guard Isaiah Thomas have a relationship and want to play together.

Speaking of Isaiah Thomas, the star has said that he wants the Celtics to focus on upgrading the team before he talks about an extension with them. I’m not surprised, but I’m really glad he is saying this because it shows that Thomas wants to win above all else. He knows that he’s proven himself and will be rewarded eventually but he doesn’t want to take away any of the team’s ability to go out and get stars to help. This is what separates the winners and losers in sports.

Thomas has also said that surgery is not his top option for his injured hip. He is waiting for the swelling to go down before he moves forward and figures out how to come back from the injury. I have no doubt in my mind that he’ll make the right move and come back even better.

Lastly, there have obviously been quite a few random rumors about players that may be coming or going. All of the Celtics that may not return have expressed the desire to stay, but we know that won’t be the case. I can’t wait to see what happens in the coming months.
