The Gender-Sexuality Alliance (GSA) Club at Blackstone Valley Tech is hosting a special one-night only, free screening of “Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric” on Thursday, October 26th at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to the screening, the club will do a short presentation defining relevant terms, answering questions, and discussing how each person can be an ally to the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning) community. The group will also be collecting monetary donations to give back to local and national LGBTQ organizations including the Trevor Project, an organization that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.
The film, “Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric,” is a 92 minute documentary that explores gender identity through conversations with experts and everyday people. The film covers a wide range of topics including sexual orientation, gender, transgender conversion, and more. Through interviews with people of different ages and cultures, the documentary gives a comprehensive look at the complexities of gender identity.
“The GSA club members are passionate about breaking down gender stereotypes and educating everyone about gender identity,” said Nicole St. Hilaire, a Career Enrichment instructor and the club’s advisor. “We would love to have anyone interested in learning more about the topic join us that night."
The free screening is an opportunity for members of the community to learn more about LGBTQ issues in an educational and supportive environment. For more information, please contact Nicole St. Hilaire at email@example.com.
