Annette M. (Sittema) Keessen, 90, a resident of Whitinsville for 59 years, died Sat. Dec. 2, 2017 in St. Camillus Health Center. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Garry R. Keessen, her grandson, Thaddeus Leestma and 2 siblings, Richard Sittema and Janis Jonkman.
She was born February 9, 1927 in Chicago, IL to the late John and Ida (Staal) Sittema and graduated from Pullman Technical High School in Chicago.
Annette was a member of the Fairlawn Christian Reformed Church in Whitinsville and was active in the Mary-Martha and Dorcas Societies. She directed the Vacation Bible School and led the women’s Bible studies at the church.
Annette was a 50 year member, as well as Treasurer and President of the Whitinsville Women’s Club. She also served as President of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs in MA. She was responsible for organizing blood drives in Whitinsville for the American Red Cross.
Annette is survived by 3 daughters, Rebecca A. and her husband Donald Buma of Chesapeake, VA., Barbara J. and her husband Dr. Eric Leestma of Highland IN and Kimberly K. and her husband Timothy Kats of Whitinsville, 7 grandchildren including Timothy and his wife Rose Buma of Chesapeake, VA, Adam and his wife Charissa Leestma of Crown Point, IN, Dr. Micah and his wife Deborah Leestma of Crown Point, IN, Matthew Leetsma of Highland, IN, Vanessa Kats, Allison and her husband Kenneth Moesker and Derek Kats all of Whitinsville, 12 great-grandchildren, Timothy Buma, Jr., and Theodore Buma, Maya, Nolan, Paige and Corinne Leestma, William, Lucia and Ezra Leestma and Mason, Owen and Cooper Moesker and two sisters, Shirley Zylstra of Schererville, IN and Kennetha J. DenBesten of St. John, IN.
The family would like to thank Darlene Chesley and Kathy Lewis for their many years of faithful care for Annette and Garry.
Visiting hours will be held on Thurs. Dec. 7, 2017 from 10-11 AM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 480 Church St. Whitinsville.
Funeral services will be held on Thurs. Dec. 7, 2017 at 11 AM following visiting hours in the funeral home. Private burial services will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Whitinsville.
